Hello! We’re helping our client Jess Rona find a creative, part-time Social Media Strategist / Manager to join her team and support both Jess Rona Grooming and Shmoop, her new dog beauty brand.
The ideal candidate is highly creative, with a background in comedy and a knack for translating Jess’s humor and personality into engaging content for both Jess Rona Grooming and Shmoop, while maintaining each account’s distinct voice.
The Role
A strategist and manager in one: you guide us on what we post, then direct a small in-house team to make it happen. You won't be shooting day to day, you'll set the plan, approve the work, post to the accounts (when needed), read the data and pivot if needed.
The first big job is defining how two accounts work together:
- Jess Rona Grooming - the founder account: Jess's expertise, personality and reach, and the story of building Shmoop.
- Shmoop - the brand account: its own recognizable voice and recurring content people follow after launch.
Responsibilities
Strategy
- Build a content strategy for Shmoop and JRG on Instagram, TikTok, YT Shorts and FB: what to post, developing and testing content pillars. Etc.
- Define account roles between Shmoop & JRG
- Work with Jess to set 3–5 repeatable content pillars
- Solve for sustainability: strategize on a format that doesn't need a full vintage-styled shoot every time, so we can keep up with demand.
- Turn each shoot into distinct posts per platform, and know what works better on IG vs. TikTok and why.
- Set an Instagram Stories strategy (reposting customers, linking to the site).
- Guide the team for a comment/DM response system to build community.
- Turn customer questions and comments into content ideas and product feedback for the team.
- Create systems for all posting (on all socials including how often to engage in the Shmoop Society) so details are accounted for and the team stays on top of tasks.
- Hop on trends if they apply to us.
Creative direction
- Share references: content styles, hooks and openings, scripts, captions, CTAs, thumbnails, editing style and visual reference as inspo.
- Review and approve posts on an ongoing basis.
Team management
- Delegate work across Jess and the team so the strategy gets executed.
- Track the assets that need to be delivered.
- Set guidance and tone for replying to DMs and comments and engaging the community, and recommend who owns it day to day.
Analytics and reporting
- Give an ongoing read on what's working and what isn't, and pivot the plan as the data says.
- Deliver a monthly report: reach, watch time/retention, shares, saves, profile visits, link clicks, product page traffic and sales.
- See what is working and repeat.
Paid social (high level)
- Set strategy for Facebook ads and paid social: which content deserves spend and a simple A/B testing system.
- This is guidance, not a full ads-manager role (no day-to-day campaign running or targeting).
- UGC content strategy, guidance and suggestions.
What We're Looking For
- A strong creative eye: you can hand over hooks, scripts and visual references.
- Comfort reading analytics and turning them into clear, concrete plans.
- Experience directing a small team and keeping a busy founder on track.
- Knowledge of Meta ads and A/B testing.
- A sense of humor.
- Bonus: experience in DTC brands.
- Experience building a full-funnel social strategy (awareness, consideration, conversion, retention) for a DTC brand on Shopify.
- Comfort moving between entertainment and commerce, keeping content fun while clearly driving sales.
Bonus Skills
- Experience growing Instagram and TikTok for a consumer product brand, ideally through a launch.
- Experience separating a founder's personal account from a brand account, and making each one stronger.
- Experience with UGC programs, creator seeding and community-led brands.
