We are looking for a creative Social Media Specialist to help expand digital engagement for a non-profit university environment in Fullerton, California. This contract opportunity focuses on producing compelling social content, promoting campus services and events, and supporting communication efforts across a wide range of departments and auxiliary teams. The ideal candidate brings strong storytelling skills, sound editorial judgment, and the ability to turn departmental updates into clear, audience-focused content.
Responsibilities:
• Manage day-to-day publishing across platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and multiple Instagram accounts, ensuring content is timely, accurate, and engaging.
• Develop original posts that spotlight programs, services, achievements, and events for university departments and affiliated service areas.
• Partner with internal teams to gather information, shape messaging, and convert updates into clear social media content, announcements, and promotional features.
• Build and maintain a content schedule that supports campaign planning, event promotion, and ongoing audience engagement.
• Attend campus activities to capture photos and short-form video for use in social and digital communications.
• Edit visual assets for publication and organize a library of approved images and video clips for future use.
• Ensure every post reflects established brand expectations, communication standards, and institutional guidelines.
• Contribute fresh ideas that strengthen reach, improve interaction, and elevate the visibility of campus initiatives and resources.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related discipline is preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience in social media, digital content development, communications, or a similar role.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and channels.
• Hands-on experience managing social platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
• Working knowledge of photography and basic video editing for digital storytelling.
• Ability to balance multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and stay organized in a collaborative environment.
• Comfortable working independently while coordinating with stakeholders across several departments.
• Familiarity with tools and skills related to content creation, including Canva and Adobe Premiere Pro, is valued.
