About Muse
Muse is a music-first social and dating platform that connects people through the music they love, helping users discover new music and new people at the same time. By building profiles around meaningful songs and listening habits, Muse brings together individuals with similar tastes for dating, friendship, and shared experiences. The platform focuses on authentic connections, enabling people to find and match with each other while listening to the same track and to turn shared musical moments into real conversations. Muse is launching on college campuses, where users verify with a college email, ensuring a trusted community of vibrant students. Your university becomes the starting point for finding concert buddies, close friends, or a special person through the songs that define you.
The Role
You're bringing Muse to UT Austin, and will own the entire growth end-to-end. That means going from zero users, to a campus where people are constantly engaging with the app because their friends are on it. How you get there is largely up to you. You'll work directly with the founder. You'll have room to try things nobody's tried before and the creative freedom to execute your strategic growth vision for Muse. What you won't have is a playbook, because we'll be writing it with you. This role is the closest thing to owning and being responsible for the entire marketing and growth leg of a startup, while still in school.
If it goes well, you will have real, measurable, quantifiable results you can point to for the rest of your career.
What You'll Do:
- Own the number. You'll have user signup targets for your campus and a timeline to help you reach your milestones and signup numbers.
- Utilize your connections and network. Greek life, chapters, clubs, teams, student government, dorm floors, group chats, whoever decides where everyone's going on Friday. You already know how your campus moves and can embed yourself and Muse in them.
- Throw things people want to be at. Parties, socials, listening sessions, silent discos, an afterparty, a kick back, study session or poetry night. The floor is yours. You pitch it, we work through the plan together, fund it and you execute and learn.
- Try a lot, keep what lands. Run five things in a month, find the one that works, then go all in on it. We'd rather you try something strange and watch it flop quickly than run one safe idea slowly over the course of 3 months. We like moving fast because it means we can learn at a faster rate.
- Be data driven. Know your numbers. How many showed up, how many signed up, how many are still opening the app a week later. Build your strategy around quantifiable, verifiable target numbers and goals. Test your theory, learn, pivot or double down and execute again.
- Be our ears. Tell us what people say about Muse, the harsh parts included. What confused them, what they loved, why someone deleted it. That goes straight into what we build next.
Who You Are:
We are specifically looking for college students attending UT Austin. You don't need a marketing background. You need to be the person who can get a campus moving and can champion a new app from 0 to 1. If you want to run your own startup or business one day and want hands-on experience with growth, this is the best place to start.
- You're an undergrad, ideally with two or more years left
- You're deep in campus life. Greek life, clubs, sports, student government, the music scene, or you're the person everyone texts to find out what's happening
- You’ve built social traction and gotten people to show up before. A party, a rush event, a club night, a fundraiser, a group trip
- You're resourceful. When you want something to happen, you find a wedge to make it work. You don’t easily accept blockers and you find creative solutions
- You move fast and make calculated decisions
- You're reliable. You reply, you follow up, you close the loop.
- You're into music (HUGE PLUS) and you’re also interested in consumer apps
- You want to be part of something from the very beginning
Preferred Qualifications:
- You've organized and managed events, rush, formals, philanthropy, or campus orgs
- You’re deeply embedded in the greek community and other orgs at your university
- You've built a following, on or offline and people trust you
- You know your campus music scene: DJs, student radio, a cappella, promoters, local venues
- You've done ambassador or street team work and can tell us what you learned
- You've started something of your own
Note
None of this is required. If you're deep in campus life and have never done marketing, apply anyway. If you are passionate about Muse’s vision and have ideas to help us launch, we want to meet you.
What You Get:
- A campus of your own, with your name on how it turns out. You own your successes.
- Performance based, uncapped with tiered bonuses
- Money to work with and say over where it goes.
- The founder on speed dial, not a layer of managers.
- A front row seat to how a consumer app gets built and launched, and a strong hand in it.
- A number and a success story that is yours, and an opportunity for bigger and more permanent roles at Muse as we grow.
