The Role
We are seeking a talented, mission-driven Freelance Cleantech Writer / Reporter based in Ohio to produce engaging, high-quality daily content.
This is a 1099 independent contractor position for a sharp journalist, specialized writer, or communications professional passionate about climate tech, solar, wind, energy storage, grid modernization, and US energy policy.
We prioritize editorial quality, analytical depth, and clear writing over raw content volume.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
- Daily In-Depth Articles: Write 1 high-quality article per day (5 articles per week, Monday–Friday, ~20 per month) delivered by an agreed-upon daily deadline and quality standards.
- Content Depth & Quality: Articles (600–800+ words) will cover US cleantech developments, regulatory updates, policy shifts, and market reports with accuracy, context, and proper source citation. As well as climate policies, circular economy and industry decarbonization of specific sectors.
- Original Interviews: Conduct remote interviews (via Zoom, phone, or email) with industry experts, CEOs, analysts, and policymakers.
- Event Coverage & Occasional Travel: Periodically cover key national industry conferences, policy summits, or press events in person. (Travel costs, lodging, and event expenses are fully pre-approved and reimbursed).
- Editorial Independence: Fully manage your own research, interview scheduling, and writing process to meet daily publishing standards.
Requirements
- Location: Must be residing and authorized to work in Ohio.
- Background: Degree in Journalism, Communications, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven experience writing about clean energy, climate technology, ESG, or B2B tech/policy reporting.
- Journalistic Integrity: Strong focus on factual accuracy, data interpretation, and clear, engaging storytelling for an American audience.
- Self-Directed: Ability to manage deadlines independently without requiring close supervision.
Compensation & Structure
- Flat Monthly Retainer: Paid bi-weekly or monthly via invoice.
- Travel & Expenses: All pre-approved travel expenses (flights, mileage, lodging, meals/per diem, event passes) are fully reimbursed.
- Tax Form: IRS Form W-9 required (1099-NEC issued annually).
