Who We Are
FreightWaves is the intelligence layer of the freight and logistics industry - delivering real-time data, breaking news, and deep analysis to the professionals who move the world's goods. Our newsroom sets the agenda for how the industry talks about itself, reaching decision-makers across trucking, rail, ocean, and supply chain through newsletters, podcasts, video, events, and one of the most engaged B2B audiences in the industry.
The Opportunity
We're hiring a Writer for the FreightTech & Venture beat to own FreightWaves' coverage of the technologies reshaping freight and supply chain. This is a reporting role for someone who wants to be first on the fundraises, product launches, and breakthroughs that define where the industry is heading.
This role is built for a sharp, curious reporter who can break a funding round in the morning, explain a new piece of supply chain technology in the afternoon, and hold their own on a podcast or on camera before the day ends. Your mission is to be the voice of the vanguard of innovation in supply chain - the reporter founders, investors, and operators read to know what's next.
What You'll Do
Beat Coverage & Reporting
- Own FreightWaves' coverage of freighttech and supply chain technology, from early-stage startups to the platforms reshaping how goods move.
- Break news on fundraises, M&A, and product launches across logistics software, automation, robotics, and supply chain AI.
- Report on the key technological developments and the people building them, from founders and engineers to the investors funding the space.
- Produce differentiated analysis that goes beyond the press release to explain why a technology matters and who it disrupts.
Sourcing & Enterprise Reporting
- Build and maintain a network of sources across venture capital, startups, and enterprise supply chain technology.
- Track funding trends, valuations, and the competitive dynamics shaping the freighttech landscape.
- Partner with the SONAR and research teams to ground technology coverage in market data.
Multimedia & Public Presence
- Contribute to FreightWaves podcasts, video, and live coverage as a subject-matter voice on freight technology.
- Conduct interviews with the founders, CEOs, and investors driving innovation in supply chain.
- Represent FreightWaves' technology coverage at industry events and in earned media.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with the audience and product teams to grow readership and engagement around technology coverage.
- Collaborate with editors to shape the FreightTech & Venture beat and land the stories that matter most.
What You Bring
- 3+ years in journalism, with a track record of breaking news and reporting under deadline. Tech, business, or startup reporting experience is a strong advantage.
- Genuine curiosity about technology and how it changes the way industries operate. Familiarity with freight, logistics, or supply chain is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to break news and develop original sources.
- Outstanding writing. You can turn a complex technical story into something an operator or investor actually wants to read.
- Comfort working with data and quantitative reporting. You don't need to build the model, but you need to know when the numbers are telling you something.
- Comfort on camera and on mic. Podcast, TV, or video experience is a plus.
- Bonus: an existing network in venture capital or the freighttech startup ecosystem.
