Commerce Writer, Food & Kitchen
Sporked.com is looking for a commerce writer who is passionate about food, cooking, and the products that make life in the kitchen easier. If you have strong opinions about meal delivery services, meal prep boxes, cookware, countertop appliances, kitchen gadgets, and grocery trends - and you’re constantly recommending new products to friends - we want to hear from you.
This role sits at the intersection of editorial and commerce, covering the products, deals, trends, and shopping news that matter to home cooks and food lovers. You’ll help readers discover what’s worth buying, what’s worth skipping, and which products genuinely deliver on their promises.
2 Things You Should Know About the Position Before Applying
- Industry insight and thoughtful analysis are essential to every article we publish. We’re looking for a passionate food and kitchen expert who can turn firsthand experience and product knowledge into informative, engaging articles packed with practical advice.
- For this role, we’re seeking an active contributor who wants to establish themselves at Sporked.com and grow with us. Writers interested in contributing only a few articles per week are encouraged to apply for one of our other available roles.
What You'll Do
- Write daily commerce stories covering meal delivery and meal prep services, kitchen products, cookware, appliances, food subscriptions, grocery items, and cooking trends.
- Write product reviews, comparisons, buying guides, gift guides, deals posts, and listicles that help readers make informed purchasing decisions.
- Hands on review of products (ex. Food services, kitchen appliances and accessories) and documenting with photography.
- Stay current on leading food and kitchen brands, emerging direct-to-consumer companies, and new products across the grocery and home-cooking spaces.
- Monitor social media, press releases, food communities, retailer announcements, and industry news to identify trends and emerging product profiles before competitors.
- Optimize stories for search while maintaining Sporked’s editorial voice and standards.
- Update evergreen content to keep recommendations timely, accurate, and competitive.
- Work closely with editors to identify coverage opportunities tied to holidays, seasonal cooking, major shopping events, and emerging food trends.
What We're Looking For
- Two or more years of experience writing commerce, food, lifestyle, or kitchen-focused content.
- Strong knowledge of food, cooking, meal delivery services, and kitchen products.
- Sound editorial judgment and the ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
- Excellent writing skills with a conversational, authoritative voice.
- Experience creating SEO-driven content and understanding search intent.
- Familiarity with affiliate commerce best practices is a plus.
- The ability to manage multiple assignments independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus Points
- You regularly use meal kits, prepared-meal services, food subscriptions, or grocery-delivery platforms.
- You have firsthand experience testing cookware, appliances, kitchen tools, or food products.
- You understand how factors such as price, quality, convenience, durability, and dietary needs influence purchasing decisions.
- You have several published clips covering food, cooking, kitchen products, or commerce.
- You enjoy discovering food and shopping trends before they become mainstream.
Success in This Role
The ideal candidate is equal parts journalist, shopping expert, and food enthusiast. You know which products deserve the hype, which services make cooking or meal planning easier, and how to turn hands-on experience into trustworthy editorial. Your work will help readers shop confidently while supporting meaningful commerce revenue for Sporked.
