One of our childrenswear clients is looking for a Part-Time Technical Designer, CAD Designer & Product Development Associate to join the team ASAP. Must have experience with childrenswear. They are based in LA, but this role will be remote. Pays $40/hr. Part time hours, around 20-25 hours a week. This is an ongoing freelance role with no set end date.
Position Summary
Client is looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Technical Designer and CAD Designer to support product development from concept through production. This role will own technical flats, tech packs, fit comments, CAD updates, and sample management while partnering closely with design, merchandising, and production to ensure products are commercially viable, accurately executed, and delivered on time.
The ideal candidate has children's apparel experience, exceptional technical skills, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design
- Create and maintain detailed tech packs for all seasonal styles.
- Develop and update graded specs, construction details, BOMs, and measurement charts.
- Review samples and provide clear fit and construction comments to vendors.
- Track revisions and ensure all technical packages remain current.
- Partner with factories to resolve fit, construction, and production issues.
CAD & Design Support
- Create technical flats and CADs for seasonal collections.
- Update colorways, prints, trims, and artwork.
- Prepare presentation boards and line sheets for internal reviews.
- Maintain organized design files and seasonal artwork libraries.
- Support product revisions throughout development.
Product Development
- Track development calendars and key milestone dates.
- Manage sample requests, approvals, and organization.
- Coordinate with overseas factories regarding sample status and revisions.
- Ensure all product information is accurate before production.
- Assist with fabric, trim, and packaging approvals.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Merchandising to ensure product aligns with assortment strategy.
- Work with Ecommerce and Marketing to provide accurate product details and imagery.
- Support production handoff by ensuring all specifications are complete.
- Help identify opportunities to improve development processes and efficiencies.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of technical design experience, preferably in children's apparel.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
- Experience creating professional tech packs and technical flats.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, grading, and manufacturing.
- Experience communicating directly with overseas factories.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience with PLM systems is a plus.
