Role Description The Grant Writer is a full-time, on-site role based in Greater Philadelphia, responsible for securing funding to support Caring for Friends’ programs and growth. This role drafts clear, compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports aligned with funder guidelines and organizational priorities. The Grant Writer conducts prospect research to identify new funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies, and maintains accurate grant records and calendars to support timely submissions and compliance. Daily tasks include collaborating with program and finance staff to gather data, success stories, budgets, and impact metrics, and translating this information into persuasive narratives and outcome-driven proposals. The role also supports broader fundraising efforts through written materials, donor communications, and occasional participation in meetings and events with partners and funders.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Grant Writing and Proposal Writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, and compliant funding requests.
- Candidates should possess experience in Grant Administration, including tracking deadlines, managing reporting requirements, and maintaining accurate grant records.
- Candidates should possess robust Prospect Research skills to identify, evaluate, and prioritize potential funders aligned with the organization’s mission.
- Candidates should possess familiarity with Fundraising practices and donor stewardship to support a coordinated development strategy.
- Additional beneficial qualifications include excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize data and stories into compelling cases for support.
- Relevant experience in nonprofit development, philanthropy, or social services, as well as knowledge of hunger relief or community-based programs, is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or Social Sciences) or equivalent professional experience is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, manage multiple deadlines, and uphold inclusive, community-centered values is highly beneficial.
