Role Description We are looking for full-time English Instructor with a background in journalism and/or filmmaking. Daily responsibilities involve preparing instructional materials, leading classroom discussions, assessing student progress, and providing constructive feedback on written and media-based assignments. The instructor will guide students in the writing process, critical reading, media literacy, and publishing and multimedia projects and presentations.
Qualifications
- Strong foundations in English instruction: language skills, the writing process, literary criticism, public speaking, listening strategies, and media literacy.
- Competency in planning engaging lessons and effective classroom management.
- Advanced writing skills, particularly in academic, creative, journalistic, and media-related contexts.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Journalism, Film Studies, or a related field required; Master's degree in related fields preferred.
- Relevant teaching certification or eligibility for certification, in accordance with local and state requirements preferred, but not required.
- Experience teaching high school students or college students, ideally in English, film studies, journalism, or related disciplines.
- Ability to integrate technology and multimedia resources into instruction and student projects.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful classroom environment that supports the school’s mission and values.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with readiness to participate in school activities and clubs.
- Willingness to use classroom lessons and multimedia productions to support extracurricular and co-curricular activities such as the school's news and entertainment program (WSTF-TV), the St. Francis Film Festival, and student-produced social media initiatives.
