THE ROLE:
We’re hiring a Senior Producer/Editor (Freelance) to help lead our social coverage, producing timely, engaging, and impactful content for audiences across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and other emerging platforms.
This isn’t traditional news. We make short-form, social-first videos about the issues shaping people’s lives, including democracy, immigration, climate, reproductive rights, and more, for an audience that expects clarity, urgency, and a clear editorial perspective.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Identify timely stories, trends, and cultural moments that resonate with our audience and translate them into compelling content
- Produce, edit, and publish short-form videos, typically under 90 seconds, from concept to final delivery
- Write scripts and edit videos with a strong sense of pacing, tone, and structure
- Help shape editorial framing and storytelling approaches across a range of topics
- May appear on camera as needed to support storytelling and audience engagement
- Collaborate with the team to ensure continuity between weekday and weekend coverage
- Ensure content meets standards for accuracy, sourcing, brand safety, and platform best practices
SUCCESS WILL LOOK LIKE:
- You consistently identify timely, high-impact stories and translate them into content that performs
- You move quickly on news and cultural moments while maintaining accuracy and clarity
- Your framing makes complex issues feel accessible, engaging, and relevant to a social audience
- You exercise strong editorial judgment, including fact-checking, sourcing, brand safety awareness, and knowing when to escalate questions
- You collaborate effectively with teammates, providing thoughtful feedback that strengthens the work and builds trust
MUST HAVES:
- 5+ years producing social video, digital news, or similar content
- Strong editorial instincts and judgment, with a clear understanding of what’s worth covering and what’s not
- Deep understanding of content performance and audience engagement across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube
- Ability to work independently and make decisions without a lot of oversight
- Strong writing skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging scripts
- Proficiency with Adobe Premiere and Canva
- Interest in political, social impact, or issue-based storytelling
The weekly salary for this position ranges from $1,800-2,100 per week. An employee's position within this range will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business needs.
