US Features/Real Life Writer
Position: Full Time/Permanent
Location: New York
Salary: Salary range: $90,000-$110,000
About the role
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced writer to join the growing features desk in our New York office. The role will focus on real-life, ‘As Told To’ features so having experience in that format is helpful, but a broad familiarity with delivering impactful, engaging features is also vital.
This is an in-office, Monday to Friday position covering a 9-hour shift, though applicants must be willing to work flexible hours.
The features department is playing a crucial part in helping to achieve our North Star goal of 1m global subscribers by 2028.
Main Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Speedily writing 1000–1400-word articles on subjects spanning show business, celebrity, crime, health, politics and other news-driven topics
- Pitching compelling stories on a daily basis and finding interesting case studies and interviews
- Working with photo editors to compose images to illustrate articles
- Building articles in a content management system
Person Specification
We are seeking professionals with the following experience:
- At least 3-5 years working as a feature writer at a newspaper, news website, magazine or television news show
- Knowledge of the DailyMail.com brand, editorial voice and audience
- An understanding of what sorts of stories work to attract, retain and delight subscribers
- Ability to restructure opinion articles is a plus
- Specific experience covering real-life, crime, celebrity, showbiz and / or politics is a plus
- Knowledge of online research tools
