About the role
St. Joe Current is hiring a Remote Writer to handle everything that can be reported from a desk. Evergreen explainers, document-driven investigative work, policy analysis, voter guides, and stories where physical presence is not the limiting factor. This is the writer who makes complex local stories make sense.

What you'll do

Voter guides and candidate questionnaires. Built in partnership with university and civic partners.
Civic and policy explainers. How local government works, what SB1 means, healthcare options, school funding.
Statehouse stories. Reframed for what they mean in St. Joseph County, Indiana.
Document-driven investigative work. Records research, policy analysis, data investigation.
Polling and election analysis. Writeups, breakdowns, long-form reference pieces.

What you bring

Strong explanatory writing chops.
Comfort with policy, data, and public records.
Research or investigative background preferred.
Digitally native. Comfortable promoting your own stories on social.
No location requirement. Regional understanding is a plus.

The details

Freelance. Per word ($0.40 to $1.00) or per story.
Fully remote.
