A well-known fashion brand is looking for a Freelance- Assistant Designer (Swim).
About The Role
The Designer is responsible for creating commercially viable, brand-right product across specific categories and collections. This role drives design from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with overall brand vision, business strategy, and customer needs. You will work across style, color, print, fit, and fabric while staying ahead of trends and maintaining a strong understanding of the market.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver commercial, brand-aligned designs across seasonal collections
- Execute design concepts from initial sketch through final product with attention to detail and speed
- Create sketches, CADs, and detailed tech packs, including construction and BOM updates in PLM (Centric)
- Adapt designs based on feedback and fitting results to ensure accurate execution
- Conduct trend research and competitive analysis to inform design direction
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Merchandising, Marketing, Product Development, and other partners
- Maintain and update line sheets, ensuring accuracy across all product information
- Present concepts and designs to internal teams and key stakeholders
- Support fittings and ensure alignment with design intent
- Manage timelines, deliverables, and budgets without compromising design quality
- Mentor and support junior team members
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Design or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of design experience in a retail or comparable environment
- Strong commercial eye with expertise in styling, fit, and construction
- Proven ability to create original designs and successful product lines
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office
- Experience with PLM systems (Centric preferred)
- Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills
- Collaborative, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Creative problem solver with a proactive, results-driven mindset
- Ability to work onsite in New York City
