Job Description
BUCK Games is seeking a freelance Writer for an unannounced original game in development. The game is a humorous 2D platformer, so we are seeking someone with experience writing for games, specifically humorous, self-aware satire (think Portal, Stanley Parable, or Little Big Planet). This role would work closely with our Creative Director and Lead Designer to polish and improve the existing narrative content while identifying opportunities in the game for additional narrative.
The ideal candidate would be comfortable working in Unity to test narrative content and make small adjustments to placement and timing. No coding experience is expected, but past experience with dialogue and voice-over game pipelines would be a plus.
Candidates should be comfortable writing narration as well as reactive one-liners (or barks).
This project is a 2D precision platformer (think Celeste, Super Meat Boy, Getting Over It), while not required, fluency and skill playing this type of game would be another benefit to candidates.
We are looking to bring someone on towards the end of April / Beginning of May for a 2-3 week duration.
Commitment & Location:
- 2-3 week engagement that could be extended 1-2 weeks.
- Remote, working with NY(EST) timezone
Responsibilities
- Review and update narrative content based on identified weaknesses
- Play the game with an eye for improving narrative impact and to identify opportunities for additional reactions from the narrator.
- Write reactive “barks” for gameplay
- Playtest narrative sections to ensure scratch VO is landing.
- Make small (in Unity editor) adjustments to narrative content.
When Applying, Keep In Mind
- The website you provide should be updated, working, and accessible, and passwords must be provided.
- Project breakdowns accompanying writing samples are always helpful.
Due to the amount of applications we receive, you might not hear back right away, and it’s difficult to provide individual feedback for everyone. We’ll reach out to you if this is a good fit!
