Location: NYC Hybrid (In-office as needed for sample reviews)
Job Type: Part-Time / Project-Based
Compensation Range: $40 - 46 per hour
We are looking for a detail-oriented
Technical Designer to support our product development team. This role is initially focused on a "backlog" project of 10 tech packs, with the potential for ongoing work. You will be responsible for transforming existing product information and physical samples into comprehensive, production-ready technical packages.
Because we specialize in juvenile goods, a sharp eye for safety standards, durability, and infant-specific construction is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Tech Pack Development: Build and finalize a backlog of approximately 10 technical packages. This includes audit-checking existing data and filling in missing specifications.
- Technical Sketching: Create precise, to-scale flat sketches and detail callouts (closures, seams, safety stitching) using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
- Data Management: Input and organize all technical data within Excel-based tech packs, ensuring accuracy in measurements and construction notes.
- Material Support: Assist in building out material libraries and bill of materials (BOM), ensuring all components meet juvenile product standards.
- Sample Reviews: Attend in-office sessions as needed to review physical samples with the design team, providing technical feedback on fit, construction, and quality.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 3+ years in Technical Design, specifically within the juvenile goods, infant apparel, or soft goods industries.
- Software Proficiency: Expert-level skills in Adobe Illustrator and Excel are required. Proficiency in Photoshop is a plus.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of garment/product construction, workmanship, and "Safety First" design principles for infants.
- Detail Obsessed: Ability to take a partially finished file or a physical sample and identify exactly what is missing to make it production-ready.
- Communication: Strong collaborative skills for in-person sample reviews and the ability to work independently on remote drafting tasks.
- Schedule & Logistics
- This is a part-time, freelance position.
- Flexible remote hours for drafting/admin work.
- Must be available to come into the office [as needed] to review samples and prototypes.
- Juvenile Experience: This is non-negotiable. Must understand things like "small parts" regulations, snap strength, and breathable materials.
