Title: Freelance Associate Technical Designer, Active ( Temp to Perm for ideal candidate)
Position Overview:
Associate Technical Designer – Men’s & Womenswear Lifestyle Apparel, will be responsible for ensuring company brand is consistently delivering well-fitting garments to markets that reflect brand ethos and performance requirements. This role will lead the fit process from design to release, including but not limited to tech pack handoff, fittings, PPs and TOPs. The Technical Designer is responsible for ensuring our product maintains design intent while also providing feedback and ideas to help meet company margin targets and quality standards. The Technical Designer will run fittings, make pattern/spec adjustments, and communicate directly with the sourcing hub/factories to ensure the best product is delivered. This role will partner with design, merchandising, and development teams. Applicants should have background in Men’s lifestyle categories, Knits/Wovens/tops/bottoms/outerwear.
Responsibilities:
· Work closely with design and product development to translate designs into a spec sheet. Prepare, maintain, and update spec sheets and technical sketches.
· Manage fit sessions, identify, and make necessary adjustments to pattern and or measurement specs, record comments, communicate updates to all key partners.
· Provide callouts and critiques during fittings to verify that all fit issues are identified.
· Partner closely with design, Product Development/ Production and merch teams to engineer product to meet margin targets.
· Responsible for ensuring final fit and construction meet all quality and performance standards; assist in communicating these standards to vendors and key partners.
· Cross-check pattern, production specs, grade rules and BOMs before release to production.
· Track and monitor brand go to market calendar; track sample shipments, track fit and top of production (TOP) samples.
· Maintain organized archive of samples and comments.
Requirements/Competencies:
- 3-5 years of experience Technical Designer
- Experience across Men’s lifestyle categories, Knits/Wovens/tops/bottoms/swim.
- Prior experience working with overseas suppliers
- Experience working in a wholesale business model
- Extensive experience in product construction/fabric construction/wash and print techniques
- Experience leading fittings and adjusting spec sheets
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Word, Excel, PLM, Gerber and Lectra
