Texas Sports Network, in partnership with The Sporting News, is hiring experienced freelance sports writers to contribute to our Texas-based coverage and national high school recruiting content.
This role is ideal for writers who understand SEO-driven sports journalism and have a proven history of generating consistent pageviews. Writers will contribute timely, search-optimized content focused on Texas high school sports, recruiting news, and national recruiting storylines.
Responsibilities
• Write SEO-focused articles covering Texas sports and national HS recruiting
• Identify trending topics and evergreen opportunities that drive traffic
• Meet deadlines and maintain consistent output
• Collaborate with editors to optimize headlines and structure for search performance
Compensation
• $5–$7 per 1,000 views
• Performance-based pay with increased volume for strong performers
Qualifications
• Proven experience driving traffic with sports content
• Strong understanding of SEO best practices and search intent
• Familiarity with Texas high school sports and/or national recruiting
• Clean, AP-style writing and attention to detail
Preferred Experience
• Previous work with digital sports media outlets
• Experience covering high school football, basketball, or recruiting
