Are you passionate about making a difference for animals and the environment? Do you have a knack for turning design concepts into functional, responsive web experiences? Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN) is seeking a motivated and resourceful Website Implementation Specialist Volunteer to join our team.
In this dynamic, hands-on role, you will be instrumental in NARN’s CAFO campaign. Unlike a rigidly defined role, your tasks will often involve investigating issues, proposing solutions, and bringing complex, sometimes ambiguous, digital projects to life. Your problem-solving skills and comfort working in an evolving environment will directly support our advocacy efforts, outreach, and educational programs.
As a Website Implementation Specialist, you will have the opportunity to directly impact our public-facing image, contributing your technical skills to a cause you believe in. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual eager to tackle technical challenges and contribute to a more sustainable and compassionate world.
The tasks in this role are project-based and can vary widely, requiring a strong sense of ownership and independent problem-solving. Responsibilities may include:
-
Problem-Solving & Maintenance: Investigating, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues across the factoryfarmfacts.org website, including layout bugs, broken links, and functionality errors.
-
Front-End Implementation: Translating design specifications and content requirements into functional web pages and components.
-
Customization & Development: Implementing custom features, plugins, and functionality within the WordPress environment.
-
Ambiguous Task Execution: Taking on open-ended assignments (e.g., “Improve the mobile navigation,” or “Add new filters”) and autonomously defining the necessary steps and code to complete the objective.
-
Optimization: Ensuring website performance and responsiveness across various browsers and devices.
-
Collaboration: Working with the NARN team to understand website needs and propose technically feasible solutions.
-
WordPress Proficiency: Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and managing WordPress themes, plugins, and content.
-
Front-End Expertise: Strong command of core web technologies for front-end development, including:
-
CSS (e.g., responsive design, preprocessors like SASS/LESS is a plus).
-
HTML5 (semantic structure).
-
Basic JavaScript (DOM manipulation, event handling).
-
Problem-Solving Focus: Proven ability to debug code, research solutions independently, and manage tasks with minimal oversight.
-
Data Visualization Experience: Familiarity with implementing or embedding charts, graphs, or interactive data displays on a website (e.g., using D3.js, Chart.js, or embedding tools like Tableau/Google Data Studio).
-
AI Tool Familiarity: Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) as a development assistant for code generation, debugging, or technical documentation.
-
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
-
Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG).
-
A passion for animal welfare, environmental sustainability, or related causes.
