Job Description:
The Associate Technical Designer willdemonstrate expertise and knowledge in Apparel Production concepts, practices, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have proven success in an Apparel/Garment construction and Manufacturing environment or in a related field. The technical Designer works closely with the Designer, Pattern Maker, Product Development, Production, and factories to ensure garment construction, sewing details and specifications are accurate as per design intent and vision. Technical Designer is responsible for a cross-functional position that interacts with both the creative and executive parts of the business. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish Departmental goals.
Duties:
- Knowledge in garment construction and able to determine best sewing construction by fabric/category.
- Work closely with the design team, factories & in house patternmakers (when applicable) to develop seasonal styles using blocks and generating specs for protos
- Maintain consistency in fit aesthetic. Develop, update and utilize library of blocks and patterns to ensure standards are being met to support best fit and to expedite the production process.
- Attend fit sessions. Fit garments weekly to meet brand integrity with the ability to cut, mark and reconstruct garments during the fitting to show desired fit intent and fit corrections. Ability to analyze garment construction and workmanship. Measure samples, compare construction and overall execution vs. tech pack requirements.
- Communicate effectively all intended fit corrections and technical information to domestic and overseas vendors. Issue graded specs to domestic & overseas vendors.
- Create diagrams/sketches and pattern corrections as needed to support revisions visually.
- Responsible to maintain consistent and accurate fit comments, grade rules, and tolerances and supply POM sketches and detail grading as appropriate for category at approval.
- Manage library of approved samples and patterns
- Work closely to support Senior Technical Designer, ensuring any business critical/hot topics are raised in a timely manner
- Respond quickly to change with a positive attitude and willingness to learn new ways to work and achieve objectives.
- Participate and support new initiatives and projects.
- Participate in team meetings, including departmental cross-functional meetings to discuss sample status and resolve issues as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years’ industry experience with-in Technical Design or Patternmaking
- Proficiency in PC operation, MS office and Excel, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software
- Experience using a product development technical specification program (PDM, PLM, WFX etc).
- Understanding of Technical Design process and product construction
- Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment
- Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
- Ability to recognize and react to changing work demands
- Ability to demonstrate proactive problems solving skills
Note: This is a temporary freelance position to cover a leave of absence. The anticipated duration is one month.
