Outside is a landscape architecture, construction, and garden care firm serving high-end residential clients across Dallas.

We design and build residential gardens grounded in horticultural expertise and shaped by architectural discipline.

Our voice is calm, architectural, and observational. We describe gardens the way they grow—over time, with care, and in service of how people live.

We don't sell, hype, or chase trends.

The Role

We're looking for a freelance contractor to manage a defined set of marketing deliverables for Outside.

This is an execution role, not a strategy role. The scope is clear, the expectations are defined, and success is measurable.

Exceptional writing is the highest priority.

The Journal is the most important marketing asset we produce and the deliverable that best represents our brand. If you're a strong writer who can work within an established voice, we can supplement technical website work and photography as needed.

You'll Be Responsible For

One Instagram post per week using existing photography and field captures
One Journal article per month (600–900 words)
Website content updates in WordPress
Monthly project-site photography
Maintaining Outside's brand voice across all content
Organizing and curating photography
Monitoring mentions of Outside in local design and industry media
Coordinating with our SEO contractor and web developer when needed

Qualifications

Strong writer with an editorial mindset
Able to write in a restrained, architectural voice rather than promotional marketing language
Comfortable posting and updating content in WordPress
Photography skills for project progress and detail shots
Independent operator who works well without daily oversight
Strong visual judgment and content curation skills
Dallas-based strongly preferred

A Plus to Have

Architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, or luxury residential design
Paid social campaigns
Familiarity with the Dallas design community

Working With Us

Independent contractor (1099)
Monthly retainer, not hourly billing
Compensation: $1,500–$2,500/month
Typically 4–8 hours per week
90-day trial period
Bi-weekly check-in and monthly review meeting
Remote work with monthly Dallas site visits
Voice guide, brand standards, and photography library provided

Success After 90 Days Looks Like

Instagram is posting consistently in our voice
Journal entries are publishing monthly
Website portfolio content is current
Photography library is growing
Outside's voice feels consistent across every channel

We'll pay $200 for the sample whether we move forward or not.

The sample is the real interview.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We hope to have someone in place by the end of July.

We've learned that marketing engagements work best when expectations are clear and deliverables are defined. If you enjoy working within a clear scope and established brand voice, we'll likely work well together. If you're looking to develop strategy or redefine a brand, this probably isn't the right fit.
