Position Overview:

The Freelance PR Consultant will lead Cutter’s public relations strategy and execution. This role is ideal for a PR professional with strong B2B or financial services experience who can transform technical insights into compelling stories and secure visibility in relevant industry channels. The consultant will work closely with our executive, marketing, consulting, and research teams to create consistent, high-quality external communications.

Role and Responsibilities:

Media & Industry Outreach

Build and maintain relationships with journalists, analysts, and editors in the investment management ecosystem (Ignites, FundFire, P&I, WatersTech, etc.).
Pitch Cutter insights and storylines to the media, securing interviews, commentary opportunities, and coverage.
Develop a rolling editorial calendar and outreach plan.

Press Materials & Communications

Draft, edit, and distribute press releases and announcements related to company milestones, research publications, events, and new services.
Ensure timely and targeted media distribution with accurate messaging.

Thought Leadership & Executive Positioning

Translate Cutter’s consulting themes and research findings into clear, engaging external narratives.
Produce bylines, op-eds, talking points, and quotes for executives and practice leads.
Support speaking engagements with submitted abstracts, briefings, and promotional plans.

Reputation & Crisis Communications (Light)

Provide guidance on sensitive communications, including staff transitions and client-facing statements.
Monitor industry conversations and flag brand-relevant opportunities or concerns.

Performance & Reporting

Provide monthly summaries of media outreach, coverage, engagement metrics, and strategic insights.

Qualifications:

5+ years of PR experience, ideally within B2B, fintech, asset management, or financial services.
Proven success securing media coverage in relevant trade publications.
Strong writing, editing, and messaging development skills.
Ability to translate technical concepts into accessible, compelling stories.
Experience managing social media presence for brands or executives.
Comfort operating independently and proposing proactive PR initiatives.
Strong project management and communication skills.
