Our Team
The Maine Mariners are a proud member of the ECHL, the premier AA professional hockey league in North America and a key development pipeline to the National Hockey League. As the ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins, the organization benefits from a strong and collaborative relationship with one of hockey’s most historic and successful franchises. The organization is committed to delivering a first-class sports and entertainment experience while serving as a central pillar of the Portland community.
The Mariners have built strong momentum in recent seasons, establishing a winning culture throughout the organization and advancing to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs, while also driving significant growth in attendance, ticket sales, corporate partnerships, and overall revenue. This combination of on-ice success and business performance positions the club for continued growth and long-term success.
Position Summary
You are the voice of the Mariners online. You turn every game, theme night, and community appearance into content that grows our fan base, sells tickets and merchandise, and delivers real value for our partners. In season, you are in the building and posting in real time. In the offseason, you keep the story going so fans are always invested.
What You Will Do
- Channel ownership: You own the day-to-day presence across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube, including development, scheduling, posting, community management, and account security.
- Content calendar: You own the rolling content calendar that covers games, promotional and theme nights, community activations, and offseason storytelling.
- Tone of voice: You love to write and have a strong voice that can break through the noise on social.
- Live game-night coverage: You run real-time coverage at every home game and coordinate road-game coverage: lineups, goals, period and final scores, highlight clips and post-game recaps.
- Original concepts: You scour the online ecosystem of sports, entertainment, and brands to bring fresh ideas to the social slate.
- Templated creative: You collaborate with the Creative Director and key stakeholders on the development, creation, and execution of creative assets across graphics, photo, and video.
- Short-form video: You shoot and edit short-form video on mobile and desktop tools, and you know what makes a Reel or TikTok perform in the first two seconds.
- Partner activation: You deliver sponsor deliverables on time and on brand (presented-by posts, in-game segments, giveaway promotions) and supply proof-of-performance for partnership recap reports.
- Player-first collaboration: You work with hockey operations and the players themselves to help them look like the stars they are, developing social content that builds their audiences and ours.
- Hockey operations accuracy: You work with hockey operations and communications on transactions and announcements, and you follow league guidelines.
- Revenue support: You support ticketing and merchandise campaigns with trackable links and channel-specific creative.
- Audience development: You think critically about what fans want and what they don’t even know they want yet.
- Community and brand care: You moderate comments, respond in the Mariners voice, and escalate sensitive issues through the agreed protocol.
- Reporting: You analyze performance and report monthly on growth, engagement, performance, and partner results, and you use the data to adjust the plan.
