BRAND AND CONTENT LEAD
Part time job description
Schedule: Two days per week, 16 hours total | 0.4 full-time equivalent
Location: Remote and Napa, CA
Annual base pay: $48,000–$60,000 at the stated part-time schedule
The Role
Mars Estate seeks a Brand & Content Lead to shape how we express ourselves through social media, photography, and film. Working closely with estate leadership, farming and winemaking teams, you will bring strong judgment, editorial and aesthetic, to the stories we tell and the images, language, and details we share.
The work connects the estate’s atmosphere with the care behind its wines: the land, the seasons, the people, and the decisions that shape each vintage. You will develop a consistent creative direction for Mars Estate and carry it through planning, production, and publication.
About Mars Estate
Mars Estate was established in the earliest days of Napa Valley winegrowing. Perched on Howell Mountain at 2,200 feet, its rows of 40-plus-year-old vines are rooted red, silica-rich rhyolitic soil that stresses the vine, thickens the skins, and concentrates the fruit. This is a mountain site farmed to certified-organic standards, home to a diverse ecosystem of plants, animals, and forest habitat we are dedicated to preserving. Since our stewardship in 2022, our winemaking has been led by Heidi Barrett, and farming by Steve Matthiasson.
Responsibilities
You will:
• Own the editorial direction and maintain a rolling seasonal calendar and monthly content plan for each communication channel.
• Spend time with the estate and winemaking teams to discover stories and translate technical detail into clear, compelling content.
• Develop briefs, commission and direct photographers and filmmakers, and manage agreed production schedules and budgets.
• Select imagery, write and edit copy, and review finished work for accuracy, consistency, and quality before publication.
• Coordinate publishing and maintain an organized library of approved content, credits, and usage permissions.
• Review audience response and performance with estate leadership each month, using the findings to guide thoughtful experiments.
• Continuously research new ways and channels to engage with our customers, including GEO and AEO.
Qualifications
• A strong portfolio demonstrating visual taste, editorial judgment, and the ability to carry an idea through to finished work.
• We welcome emerging talent and unconventional backgrounds. Independent projects, personal publications, freelance work, and a distinctive social presence are all relevant.
• Excellent visual taste and editorial judgment; know which stories matter and what to leave out.
• Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to move between evocative imagery and substantive explanation.
• Experience briefing and directing creative collaborators, managing feedback, and delivering work within a budget.
• Curiosity about craft, design, and how things are made; willingness to learn winemaking practices.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize within a part-time schedule, and collaborate closely with estate leadership.
• No minimum years of experience or formal degree requirement. We value the quality of your work, curiosity, initiative, and ability to collaborate.
• Experience in wine, luxury, hospitality, or outdoor brands is welcome. Wine certifications and postgraduate degrees are not required. Photography or video editing skills are an advantage.
