Chicago Star Media is looking for a talented Multimedia Journalist Editor to produce, write, edit and review content for publication on our website: www.chicagostarmedia.com.
The ideal candidate will be a prolific writer and content producer who is passionate about creating high-quality content on a daily basis and who is able to manage a team of freelance writers, and help drive revenue.
The candidate should have excellent communication skills, be an upbeat and energetic team player with strong people skills. Strong ability to capture video, take photos and write on the fly is a must.
The editor will generate about 2,000 words or 4-6 stories per day and oversee the quality of contributor submissions to reach the daily total. They will be responsible for uploading content into our CMS and be the final eyes on stories before publishing. The editor will have excellent organization, and digital layout skills. Candidate should have a deep understanding of Chicago AP Style.
We are willing to make this either a full-time or part-time position depending on the person and their experience. We require presence at our downtown Chicago office. Local candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
At least two years of prior experience in journalism, public relations, communications and marketing or a comparable field or a journalism degree from an esteemed program are prerequisites. The candidate must have strong knowledge of the ways digital media connects with audiences.
Responsibilities
- Produce 4-6 stories per day, covering a range of topics that are relevant to our audience
- Attend and cover events as a multimedia journalist
- Manage a team of freelance writers by editing their work, and updating editorial calendar
- Knowledge of social media platforms and ability to create social media content
- Maintain the publication's website, ensuring that content is up-to-date and of the highest quality
- Organize and publish weekly e-newsletters
- Monitor traffic and engagement metrics, using data to inform editorial decisions and identify opportunities for growth
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the industry, such as influencers, PR reps and other publishers
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in digital journalism or a related field or have obtained a journalism degree or other relevant degree from an esteemed program
- Proven track record of producing high-quality content on a daily basis, ideally in a fast-paced news environment
- Strong ability to learn new technologies, CMS and publishing tools (we use Mailchimp and Blox)
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and a knack for storytelling
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience managing teams of freelance writers, and a talent for providing constructive feedback
- A creative and strategic mindset, with a proven ability to think outside the box and drive revenue
- Working knowledge of SEO best practices and other digital marketing strategies
- Familiarity with content management systems, analytics platforms, and other digital publishing tools
- A "can-do" attitude and a willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done
