Position Summary
The Grant Writer / Consultant supports Angel Kids Pediatrics and Behavioral Health on an as-needed, project-based basis by identifying, evaluating, developing, and supporting grant opportunities that align with organizational priorities. This role works closely with executive leadership and key departments to translate clinical, operational, behavioral health, community, and strategic initiatives into clear and compelling grant applications. The Grant Writer is expected to manage assigned opportunities from initial review through submission and, when requested, assist with award documentation, reporting, renewals, and grant tracking.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and identify federal, state, local, foundation, corporate, and community grant opportunities that align with Angel Kids Pediatrics and Behavioral Health priorities.
- Review funding opportunities and provide a concise assessment of eligibility, strategic fit, funding amount, required match or cost share, major requirements, application deadline, reporting expectations, and recommended next steps.
- Develop grant applications, letters of inquiry, concept papers, narratives, executive summaries, needs statements, program descriptions, goals, objectives, outcomes, sustainability plans, and other required proposal components.
- Partner with executive leadership, clinical leaders, operations, behavioral health, finance, quality, compliance, marketing, and other departments to gather program information, organizational data, budgets, outcomes, supporting documentation, and required attachments.
- Translate clinical, operational, and community initiatives into accurate, persuasive, and funderresponsive proposals while maintaining consistency with the organization’s mission, priorities, and approved messaging.
- Coordinate application timelines and maintain clear communication regarding required information, internal deadlines, outstanding items, submission requirements, and risks that could affect timely completion.
- Ensure each assigned application follows the funder’s instructions, formatting requirements, eligibility criteria, page limits, required attachments, certifications, and submission process.
- Assist with grant submission through applicable online portals and confirm successful submission when requested.
- Maintain organized grant records, including funding opportunity information, submitted applications, award notices, reporting requirements, deadlines, correspondence, and supporting documents.
- Assist with postaward reporting, progress updates, renewal applications, budget narratives, and other grantrelated deliverables as assigned.
- Help develop reusable organizational grant materials, including standard descriptions, communityneed language, program summaries, organizational statistics, outcomes, and supporting narratives that can be adapted for future opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality of organizational, financial, proprietary, employee, and patientrelated information and follow applicable organizational privacy and compliance requirements.
- Any other grantrelated responsibilities and/or tasks designated by supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public health, healthcare administration, nonprofit management, business, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated professional experience developing grant proposals and managing grant application deadlines.
- Excellent writing, editing, research, organization, and projectmanagement skills.
- Ability to interpret complex funding announcements, application instructions, eligibility criteria, and reporting requirements.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet firm deadlines, and proactively communicate barriers or missing information.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce polished, accurate, and submissionready documents.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, clinical teams, finance, operations, and external partners.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, online research tools, and webbased grant submission portals.
- Must demonstrate alignment with the Angel Kids Pediatrics mission, culture, and commitment to taking care of people.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience securing grants for healthcare, pediatric healthcare, behavioral health, community health, or nonprofit organizations.
- Experience with federal and state grant opportunities, healthcare foundations, corporate giving programs, and communitybased funding sources.
- Experience with grants related to rural health, behavioral health, health equity, social determinants of health, literacy, children and families, care coordination, workforce development, technology, or community outreach.
- Experience developing grant budgets and budget narratives in collaboration with finance or program leadership.
- Demonstrated history of successful grant awards, including the ability to provide examples of grants submitted and funded.
Measures of success
Success is measured by the quality and accuracy of submitted proposals, timely completion of assigned applications, clear management of deadlines and required materials, identification of appropriate funding opportunities, responsiveness to internal stakeholders, organized grant documentation, and effective support of awarded-grant reporting requirements. Grant awards are influenced by funder priorities and competition and are therefore considered alongside, rather than as the sole measure of, performance.
Role scope
This is an as-needed, project-based position intended to support specific grant opportunities and related grant-development needs. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours or projects. The scope, timeline, deliverables, and compensation for major assignments may be established before work begins. Final decisions regarding which opportunities to pursue, program commitments, budgets, legal terms, certifications, and acceptance of grant awards remain with designated Angel Kids Pediatrics leadership.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work for extended periods at a computer and review detailed written materials.
- Frequent written, virtual, and telephone communication with internal teams and, when applicable, external funding organizations or community partners.
- Ability to participate in meetings and complete timesensitive assignments based on grant deadlines.
