About the Company
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer – Policies & Procedures for a contract-to-hire opportunity in North Phoenix. This is an onsite position focused on developing, improving, organizing, and maintaining company policies, procedures, SOPs, and related business documentation.
About the Role
This individual will work closely with Operations, Compliance, department leaders, and subject matter experts to understand business processes and translate them into clear, accurate, and practical documentation. The role will have ownership throughout the documentation lifecycle—from gathering information and identifying gaps through drafting, review, approval, publication, and ongoing maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Collect and review existing policies, procedures, SOPs, forms, checklists, and related documentation.
- Identify missing, outdated, duplicate, or inconsistent documentation.
- Develop new policies, procedures, and SOPs and revise existing documentation to reflect current business practices.
- Interview department leaders, subject matter experts, and employees to understand and document processes.
- Lead and coordinate policy review meetings, document decisions and action items, and follow up with stakeholders.
- Partner with Compliance to research regulatory requirements and incorporate appropriate changes into policies and procedures.
- Maintain a centralized documentation library with consistent templates, ownership, version control, approval dates, effective dates, and review dates.
- Track documentation through development, review, approval, publication, and future revisions.
- Help resolve inconsistencies between documented procedures and current business practices.
- Coordinate with Operations, Compliance, HR, and Training when changes require employee communication or training.
- Support audits, compliance reviews, and client documentation requests.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in policy and procedure development, technical writing, compliance documentation, document control, operations, quality assurance, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience writing, developing, and revising formal policies, procedures, SOPs, or similar business documentation.
- Strong writing, editing, research, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience gathering information from subject matter experts and translating complex processes into clear documentation.
- Comfortable facilitating meetings and working with stakeholders across multiple departments and levels of leadership.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple documents, deadlines, reviews, and approvals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Experience in collections, financial services, or another regulated industry is preferred.
- Experience with document management or version-control systems is preferred.
