Senior Interpretive/Environmental Graphic Designer
Gecko Group is a multidisciplinary design studio specializing in exhibition, interactive, and experiential design for museums, cultural institutions, and public environments. The team creates wayfinding systems, interpretive plans, and immersive digital environments that engage diverse audiences. Team members collaborate across disciplines to produce thoughtful, story-driven design that connects people with places, ideas, and organizations.
We are looking for a Senior Graphic Designer who is collaborative, detail-oriented, and a clear communicator. This person should build strong relationships with teammates and clients, bring strong ideas, think critically, and apply strategic design thinking. The role requires EGD experience, interpretive graphic design, exhibit design collaboration, self-direction, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. This position is on a contract basis with the option for full time, it is a hybrid role based in the Philadelphia area, with some in office days and some remote work. Occasional travel to project sites for client meetings, site walks, and production coordination.
Experience in interpretive design for Zoos, Nature Centers, Museums, Botanic Gardens, Parks and organizations with nature and science-based content.

Key Responsibilities
- Interpretive/Exhibit Design: Create visual layouts, panels, and graphics that translate complex historical, scientific, or cultural data into engaging visitor experiences.
- Environmental Design: Design physical wayfinding systems, large-scale murals, and spatial graphics in the built environment.
- Project Leadership: Manage design workflows from early concept sketches to final production and installation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal design team and clients to align visual elements with educational goals.
- Mentorship: Guide junior designers and production designers to review production proofs for quality and accuracy.
- Content and interactive development for exhibits
- Vendor interface: work with fabricators and specialty builders to ensure design intent and quality are met.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5 to 8 years of professional graphic design experience, with a strong focus on interpretive, experiential, or environmental design.
- Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, CAD Tools, SketchUp a plus) and familiarity with spatial or prototyping tools.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of exhibition production processes, ADA signage compliance, and durable materials suited for environment graphics.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating projects with involvement through all phases of interpretive and environmental projects.
