Job Title: Technical Writer – Process Information & SOP Development

Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Technical Writer who will lead the collection, analysis, and documentation of process information to create clear, concise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and related process documentation for the R&S (Research & Systems) portfolio. The role demands strong interviewing skills, the ability to translate complex technical workflows into actionable guidance, and proficiency with government‑style documentation standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews and active‑listening sessions with engineers, operators, and other stakeholders to capture detailed process flows and the rationale behind each step.
- Write, edit, and format SOPs, work instructions, and standard operating procedures that meet R&S design guidelines, industry standards, and government contracting requirements.
- Produce flowcharts, diagrams, and other graphics (e.g., Visio, screen‑capture tools) that complement written procedures and enhance comprehension.
- Create, maintain, and adapt document templates in line with R&S design standards and customer proposal strategies.
- Perform comprehensive editing for spelling, grammar, style, and readability; ensure technical accuracy and consistency across all deliverables.
- Track and manage the lifecycle of technical documents, including revisions, approvals, and archiving.
- Coach SMEs on persuasive and clear writing techniques and provide feedback to improve the quality of their contributions.
- Format documents for both printed/bound and digital distribution, incorporating graphics as needed.
- Manage sensitive information in compliance with company and government security protocols.
- Edit and develop government‑style proposals, ensuring compliance with US‑government formatting and content requirements.
- May assist with the review of FAA CDRLs for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with contractual obligations, providing corrective feedback to the responsible teams.
- Document lifecycle management, including version control, approvals, and archiving.
- Interviewing SMEs and distilling “why” behind process steps.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of professional technical writing/editing experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or government contracting environments.
- Proven ability to produce clear, concise SOPs using the active voice and imperative mood.
- Demonstrated expertise with US‑government style guides and proposal formats.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, publishing tools (InDesign, Acrobat), and office software (PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, Project).
- Strong visual‑documentation skills (Visio, flowcharting, screen‑capture tools).
- Exceptional attention to detail and a deadline‑oriented work ethic.
