Social Video Producer, Developer Social Content
12+ month contract
Salary: $60-65/hour
Remote: Must be located in the South Bay Area for video shoot events
Role Overview:
The Social Video Producer is a hands-on production specialist responsible for the creation, editing, and optimization of high-impact, short-form video content specifically designed for developer social media platforms. This role is key to executing the strategy that prioritizes "video-first" content, ensuring that production methods are authentic ("scrappy" or "low-fi") and culturally resonant with the technical developer audience to drive engagement across platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, X, and LinkedIn.
Key Responsibilities
I. Social-First Video Production and Editing
- Content Creation: Lead the production, capture, and delivery of daily and weekly short-form video content (typically 60 seconds or less) optimized for quick consumption on social feeds.
- Platform Optimization: Edit and adapt long-form videos (such as conference talks or tutorials) into vertical (9:16) or square (1:1) short-form clips (e.g., YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, LinkedIn videos) for maximum platform performance.
- Production Execution: Facilitate remote or in-person video recordings, utilizing mobile devices or edit suites, and managing tight turnarounds (aiming for same-day editing/delivery where possible).
- Post-Production: Apply necessary graphics, captions, text overlays, and visual effects, ensuring text pacing and visual legibility are optimized for viewing directly within social feeds.
- Asset Generation: Create supplementary visual assets for posts, such as short GIFs and motion graphics, utilizing tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere) or Kapwing/Canva/Kapwiig where necessary.
II. Content Strategy and Creative Development
- Idea Generation: Proactively contribute ideas for "proactive content" and "social-first videos" (e.g., animations, cut downs, memes, dev-humor) during regular content brainstorming sessions and weekly "Newsroom" meetings, ensuring content is timely and relevant to developer trends and cultural moments.
- Aesthetic and Trends: Maintain expertise in the current video dimensions, best practices, and trends across major platforms (X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram) to continuously evolve the social video aesthetic and execution standards for the team.
- Authenticity: Focus on creating authentic, low-fi, "scrappy" content that resonates with developers on a personal level by highlighting common struggles (like debugging/VIM jokes) and developer experiences.
III. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Compliance
- Workflow Support: Collaborate with the Project Manager (PM) and the Social Media Manager (SMM) to manage content approvals and coordinate asset handoffs across design and publishing teams.
- Technical Accuracy: Work closely with Developer Relations (DevRel) subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure all content, especially technical demos and tutorials, maintains technical accuracy and uses jargon-free, straightforward language appropriate for the audience.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in content review to confirm social copy aligns with the video asset, checks for technical errors, and ensures accessibility requirements (like proper captioning) are met before publication.
- Tooling: Use the designated social management tool (Sprinklr) and collaborate on managing content in shared systems (e.g., project trackers).
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years’ professional experience producing and shooting video content in professional Brand name companies.
- 4+ years’ professional experience creating dedicated "social-first" video content.
- Mid-to-high proficiency with professional editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere) and mobile editing tools.
- Experience shooting with Google Pixel
- Strong understanding of video formats and engagement strategies for social media platforms including YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
