Role Description The True Crime Script Writer will create detailed, engaging scripts for true crime content, including episodes, series, and special features. Day-to-day responsibilities include researching cases, verifying facts from multiple sources, outlining story structure, and writing polished scripts that balance narrative tension with accuracy and sensitivity. The writer will collaborate with producers and other team members on-site in Remote, OR to refine story arcs, adapt scripts based on feedback, and meet production timelines. This is a contract role requiring consistent delivery of high-quality scripts, adherence to ethical storytelling standards, and clear communication with the creative team.
Qualifications
- Strong research and fact-checking abilities, including sourcing information from public records, news archives, and reputable references.
- Experience in scriptwriting, storytelling, or narrative writing, preferably in true crime, documentary, or non-fiction formats.
- Proficiency in editing and revising content for clarity, tone, and structure while maintaining narrative impact.
- Ability to handle sensitive subject matter with discretion, empathy, and adherence to ethical and legal considerations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with an on-site production team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple projects.
- Familiarity with audio or video production workflows and script formats used in podcasts, YouTube, or streaming content is beneficial.
- Relevant education or equivalent experience in journalism, creative writing, communications, film, or a related field is preferred.
