BaseWorks Consulting is a food and farm consulting firm in Petaluma, California. We provide owner-operated food and farm businesses with integrated strategy, finance, and marketing services so they can build profitable businesses. I've worked with more than 200 food and farm businesses, including a decade leading a firm that served them nationwide.
I'm looking for an established freelance marketer to run social content and email for our clients. We have a client that needs help now.
What you'd do:
- Write and build social content, and run the posting calendar
- Capture photo and video on site, including the owner and team on camera
- Build simple graphics in Canva, or a tool you like better
- Handle comments and DMs so the client's audience gets a reply
- Build and send email campaigns and automated sequences that grow a list and bring people in the door
- Sit down with the client about once a month and turn that conversation into a month of content
- Report on what worked, in plain numbers, and adjust from there
- Work directly with the client and with me
- Help scope your own work so expectations are clear on both sides
Our clients are bakers, cheesemakers, ranchers, and growers. They're busy running the business, and their story is rarely written down anywhere. Your job is getting it out of their head and into content that sounds like them. Being easy for an owner to work with matters as much as your social media and email marketing skills.
Use AI well. Use it to plan a calendar, to develop and draft content, and to edit and sharpen your own work. Tell me how you use these tools, and how you get to content that sounds and feels human and true to the brand.
We handle sales, contracts, client management, and billing. You do the creative work and get paid without the paperwork.
Qualifications:
- Four or more years doing this type of work for real businesses
- An active freelance practice with current clients. They can be anywhere.
- Strong writing with a marketing brain behind it. You know how to write a caption that sells and an email people open.
- Fluent on Instagram and Facebook. TikTok, YouTube, or others are a plus.
- Comfort shooting and editing photo and video on a phone, including people
- Hands-on experience with an email platform: Drip, Klaviyo, MailerLite, Mailchimp, or similar, including automated sequences
- A social scheduling or management platform you know well
- Comfortable reading the numbers and telling a client what they mean
- Boosted posts and light paid social are a plus
- Based in Sonoma or Marin, or close enough to be willing to get to client sites and to my office in Petaluma once in a while
Set your own hours, use your own tools and accounts, and work from wherever you want. You keep your other clients, and I expect you to have them. This is contract work with no benefits. You'll sign our standard subcontractor agreement and either send me an invoice each month or track your time in our systems and we pay against that.
Rate is $35 to $45 an hour depending on experience. Work starts around 4 to 8 hours a week and grows as we add clients. There's also business development and outreach work for BaseWorks itself available at the same rate if that's in your wheelhouse.
I'm building this practice for the long run. I'd like to find someone who grows with it.
