Company Description
Mountain Bike Specialists is an established, independently owned bicycle shop and growing shop based in downtown Durango, Colorado; one of the most respected mountain biking communities in the country.
For decades, MBS has been part of the culture, history, and progression of cycling in Durango. Today, MBS is entering an ambitious new phase focused on building a modern media presence around bikes, athletes, products, events, local stories, and the people who make the cycling community special.
We are not looking to simply advertise products. We want to create compelling, high-quality content that people genuinely want to watch, share, and follow. This includes bike checks, athlete features, product videos, technical education, event coverage, documentary-style storytelling, branded apparel, website content, and creative campaigns.
For the right videographer or digital creator, this is an opportunity to help shape the voice and visual identity of a growing shop from the ground up. You will have access to interesting people, high-end bikes, industry relationships, events, athletes, and meaningful stories; along with significant room to take ownership, build a portfolio, expand your responsibilities, and grow professionally within the cycling and outdoor industries.
Role Description
The Digital Content Creator / Video Editor & Graphic Designer is a hybrid position based in Durango, Colorado. The role will begin primarily in person to allow the creator to learn the MBS brand, understand the shop, capture original content, and build strong working relationships with the team. Over time, portions of the editing and design work may be completed remotely.
This role is ideal for someone who is hungry, creative, self-motivated, and ready to step up to the plate. We are looking for a person who does not need every assignment mapped out for them; someone who notices opportunities, brings forward ideas, and takes pride in turning rough concepts into polished, professional content.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include filming and editing short- and long-form video content, editing product and lifestyle photography, designing digital and print graphics, creating website assets, and helping establish a consistent visual identity across the company.
The creator will work closely with ownership and the MBS team to develop content around bikes, products, athletes, events, service education, local cycling history, and the broader Durango riding community.
This is not a traditional corporate role with narrow responsibilities. It is a platform for an emerging creator to develop a recognizable body of work, gain meaningful real-world experience, and potentially grow into a larger creative leadership position as the company’s media presence expands.
Primary Responsibilities
- Film and edit engaging short-form and long-form video content.
- Create bike checks, product features, interviews, athlete profiles, event recaps, educational videos, and documentary-style stories.
- Transform raw footage into polished content with strong pacing, audio, music, graphics, captions, and storytelling.
- Edit and enhance product, lifestyle, staff, and event photography.
- Design graphics for the website, email campaigns, digital advertisements, signage, apparel, events, and promotional materials.
- Create and maintain visually consistent product pages and branded website content.
- Develop reusable templates, motion graphics, title cards, thumbnails, and visual systems.
- Help organize and maintain the company’s photo, video, and digital asset library.
- Collaborate with staff to identify compelling stories, products, and personalities worth featuring.
- Contribute creative ideas rather than waiting only for assigned tasks.
- Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong video editing skills and experience using programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or comparable professional editing software.
Candidates should possess graphic design and photo-editing skills using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Canva, or similar platforms.
Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of composition, pacing, visual storytelling, typography, branding, audio, and color correction.
Candidates should be comfortable filming with professional cameras, mirrorless cameras, smartphones, action cameras, and basic lighting and audio equipment.
Candidates should possess strong communication skills and be able to collaborate effectively with ownership, staff, athletes, customers, and community partners.
A strong portfolio of video, photography, design, or digital content is more important than a specific degree.
Experience with outdoor recreation, cycling, action sports, retail, apparel, YouTube, website content, or branded storytelling is highly beneficial.
Familiarity with motion graphics, animation, website content management, SEO, YouTube optimization, or digital advertising is an advantage.
Candidates should be dependable, organized, receptive to feedback, and capable of managing projects independently.
Most importantly, candidates should be ambitious, resourceful, curious, and excited to grow. We are looking for someone who sees the opportunity to build something—not someone who only wants to complete a list of tasks.
Work Structure
- Hybrid position based in Durango, Colorado.
- Primarily in person during the initial training and brand-development period.
- Remote editing and design flexibility may increase once the creator is established in the role.
- Schedule may occasionally include events, rides, product launches, or filming outside traditional business hours.
- Part-time initially, with the potential for expanded hours and responsibilities based on performance and company growth.
Compensation
Compensation is dependent on experience, portfolio quality, technical ability, and the level of responsibility the candidate is prepared to take on.
Starting compensation is expected to range from $17 to $28 per hour, with meaningful opportunities for advancement as the role and the company’s media platform grow.
Growth Opportunity
This role has the potential to become much larger than an entry-level editing or design position.
A strong performer may have the opportunity to grow into a lead content creator, creative director, media manager, brand manager, or producer overseeing larger campaigns, athlete collaborations, documentary projects, and industry partnerships.
The person who succeeds in this role will leave with more than a paycheck. They will build a substantial portfolio, develop professional relationships throughout the cycling industry, gain experience across multiple creative disciplines, and play a visible role in shaping the future of an iconic Durango cycling business.
