Role Description This is a part-time freelance editor role with fully remote work arrangements. The editor will review and refine manuscripts for clarity, consistency, grammar, and style, while preserving each author’s voice. Day-to-day responsibilities include line editing, copyediting, and light developmental feedback; preparing revision notes and style suggestions; and ensuring adherence to house style and genre conventions. The role also involves communicating with authors and internal team members, meeting agreed deadlines, and managing multiple projects in different stages of the editorial process. The editor will use digital tools and document management platforms to track edits, version control, and project status.
Qualifications
- Strong editing and proofreading skills, including grammar, syntax, style consistency, and fact-checking.
- Experience with line editing and copyediting for fiction and/or nonfiction manuscripts.
- Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to authors and collaborate respectfully on revisions.
- Comfort working with style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style) and adapting to house style requirements.
- Excellent written communication skills and fluency in English.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
- Familiarity with word-processing and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Word track changes, Google Docs, project management platforms).
- Previous experience in publishing, editing, or related fields is preferred; relevant coursework or training in English, Writing, Communications, or Publishing is a plus.
- Interest in working with a range of genres and an inclusive approach to stories and authors from diverse backgrounds.
