Position OverviewEnlace Latino NC is seeking a fully bilingual (Spanish-English) freelance reporter based in Western North Carolina to cover community issues in Burke County. This role is designed for a journalist committed to community-centered reporting, civic engagement, and culturally responsive storytelling for Latino audiences.
The reporter will contribute to strengthening access to reliable information and amplifying community voices through high-quality journalism.
Key Responsibilities- Produce original, community-focused reporting relevant to Burke County
- Deliver a minimum of five (5) articles during the contract period
- Conduct interviews with community members, local leaders, and organizations
- Develop clear, engaging, and accessible content in Spanish
- Uphold accuracy, cultural competence, and ethical journalism standards
- Meet deadlines and maintain ongoing communication with editorial staff
Deliverables & Performance Expectations- Timely delivery aligned with editorial priorities
- Demonstrated ability to build local sources and community trust
- Consistent adherence to Enlace Latino NC editorial standards
Compensation- $500-$700 per months
- Estimated total contract value: up to $5,000
Required Qualifications- Fluency in Spanish and English (written and verbal)
- Experience in journalism, reporting, or related field
- Strong writing, storytelling, and interviewing skills
- Residency in Western North Carolina with familiarity with local Latino communities
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Commitment to inclusive, community-centered journalism
Preferred Qualifications- Experience covering rural or underrepresented communities
- Established relationships with local stakeholders or organizations
- Multimedia storytelling skills (audio, video, photography)
Work Environment & Structure- Fully remote with flexible scheduling
- Contractor assigned one county coverage area
- Editorial workflow and deadlines coordinated in advance
