About the Role
On a contract basis, and subject to the terms of the contract, we are seeking a Senior Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Developer (Freelance) to serve as the hands-on technical owner and subject matter expert for Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC).
This is a highly execution-focused role, with approximately 80% of time dedicated to building, QA'ing, and deploying high-volume marketing emails directly within Salesforce Marketing Cloud. While most email builds are straightforward and repeatable, the volume is significant, and there is strong opportunity to improve speed, efficiency, and scalability through better templates, modular design, personalization frameworks, and automation.
In addition to daily email execution, this role will own the technical design and build of all SFMC journeys, serving as the in-house expert and reducing reliance on external agencies for complex builds, personalization, and troubleshooting.

Location: Remote (U.S.-based preferred)
Availability Required: Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm PT, occasional weekend on-call availability
Rate/Duration: $80/hour; 6 months with an option to extend
What You'll Do
High-Volume Email Execution ( 80%)
- Build, QA, and deploy high-volume marketing emails daily within Salesforce Marketing Cloud (Email Studio).
- Develop and maintain responsive, mobile-first HTML/CSS email templates.
- Execute dynamic personalization using AmpScript, conditional logic, and data extensions.
- Conduct thorough QA using preview/testing tools and platforms such as Email on Acid.
- Troubleshoot rendering, data, and personalization issues quickly and independently.
- Ensure compliance with deliverability and legal standards (CAN-SPAM, GDPR).
Salesforce Marketing Cloud Ownership
- Own the technical design, build, and optimization of all SFMC Journey Builder programs, including lifecycle, triggered, and behavioral journeys.
- Serve as the organization's Salesforce Marketing Cloud subject matter expert.
- Troubleshoot journey logic, entry sources, decision splits, and re-entry criteria.
- Maintain best practices for authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and inbox placement.
- Partner cross-functionally to translate campaign requirements into technically sound builds.
Personalization & Efficiency Enablement
- Enable and optimize personalization technologies such as Movable Ink to drive scalable dynamic content and reduce manual production effort.
- Identify opportunities to streamline high-volume email production through modular design, reusable components, and automation.
- Improve personalization frameworks without increasing build complexity.
- Help transition complex builds and technical dependencies away from external agencies.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience in Email Studio and Journey Builder.
- Advanced proficiency with AmpScript, including conditional logic, data extension lookups, and dynamic personalization.
- Strong expertise in HTML and CSS specifically for email (responsive, cross-client optimized).
- Experience with email QA tools (Email on Acid).
- Deep understanding of email deliverability, rendering behavior, and compliance requirements.
Nice to Have
- Experience integrating and deploying dynamic content platforms such as Movable Ink within Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications.
- Experience designing modular email systems for high-volume environments.
