VIP BG Magazine Editor - Salaried Part-Time/Full-Time (Opportunity for FT position w/addition of sales responsibilities)
VIP Bowling Green is the premier lifestyle and community publication for Bowling Green, Kentucky. As a 100% advertiser-supported, free-distribution magazine, we pride ourselves on being the "pulse" of the city. From community events to spotlighting the professionals who drive our local economy, we celebrate everything that makes Bowling Green a "VIP" place to live.
We are seeking a high-energy, community-minded Editor to lead our publication. This is a role for a storyteller who loves this city. You will oversee the content lifecycle for our diverse themed issues (Bridal, 40 Under 40, Derby Fashion, etc.) while maintaining a strong understanding of our advertiser needs.
This is a part-time salaried position requiring consistent hours from 9a-2p, M-Fr. During "lock week" (the final production days before we go to print), default hours expand to 8a-5p*. While savvy time management should keep your evenings and weekends free, the flexibility to put in extra hours is required to ensure we deliver a flawless publication to the printer on time.
*The optional addition of sales responsibilities to the role would require a standard full time schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Strategy & Planning: Develop and manage the editorial calendar for monthly themes, including sourcing and planning local events to cover and include. Direct design team to achieve intended outcome, producing an on brand publication.
- Writing & Editing: Craft engaging feature stories, professional profiles, and event recaps (directly and with support of our team of writers). Proofread all copy for clarity, tone, and accuracy.
- Contributor Management: Source, assign and manage freelance writers and photographers, track and submit payments due monthly for freelance contractors.
- Community Engagement: Attend local events, galas, and ribbon-cuttings to stay "in the know" and gather content for social scenes and spotlights.
- Collaborative Sales Integration: Work closely with the sales team to ensure "Advertorial" content (like Finance, Legal, and Real Estate spotlights) meets both the client's needs and our magazine’s high editorial standards.
- WKU Liaison: Serve as a primary editorial point of contact for Western Kentucky University Athletics to ensure high-quality, official coverage of Hilltopper sports and culture.
- Project Management: Coordinate with freelance writers and photographers to ensure all assets are submitted on deadline utilizing our project management tools and processes.
Qualifications:
- Bowling Green Native/Expert: Deep knowledge of the local community, businesses, and WKU culture is a massive plus. Must live in Bowling Green, KY and be available for regular in person work and local meetings.
- Editorial Experience: 2+ years in journalism, communications, or magazine publishing. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Style Savvy: An eye for aesthetics, social media and/or digital content creation is a plus.
- Relationship Builder: Ability to interview high-level professionals and community leaders with poise. Confident, outgoing personality with a passion for local business and community.
- Deadline Driven: Thrives in a fast-paced environment where "going to print" is the ultimate goal. Strong self-discipline and time management.
- Reliable computer, internet access and personal vehicle for client meetings when needed.

Compensation: $30,000-60,000
