English to Korean - Legal Translator, Editor, and/or Transcriber (Remote)
- Status: Freelance Contractor

Global Language Strategies, a business headquartered in the Washington, D.C. metro region, is currently seeking a professional freelance linguist to translate, edit, and/or transcribe legal documents from
English to Korean. This is a remote position, as needed.
Job Duties:
- Provide accurate translation, editing of documents, and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from English to Korean.
- Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms.
- Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language.
- Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.
- Translate, edit, and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards.
- Use domain-specific terminology.
- Review and certify other translators’ work quality, as needed.
- Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
Requirements:
- A U.S. citizen willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in legal documentation, translating, and/or editing between English and a foreign language.
- Or 3 years of experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription.
- Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the target foreign language(s).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as Trados.
- Preferred Qualifications: **ATA, NAJIT, or other relevant professional certification.
