Job Overview
NanoAL is hiring a Freelance Technical Writer to craft clear and comprehensive user manuals for industrial equipment. The technical writer will gather information from multiple sources including NanoAL engineers, component documentation, and instructional experience with the equipment. The completed user manual will include operation and maintenance procedures.
Duties
- Review and collect information from existing component and sub-system documentation as available.
- Receive instructional experience with the equipment from NanoAL product engineers.
- Communicate with NanoAL product engineers to gather accurate information and clarify technical details.
- Conduct internal interviews as needed to gather details of the operating and maintenance procedures.
- Develop and produce high-quality user manuals that document the operating and maintenance procedures.
- Use professional diagramming tools to create visual representations that complement the written content, enhancing user comprehension.
- Edit and proofread all documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to style guidelines.
- Provide a professional estimate of the hours necessary to produce each document.
- Meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality in all deliverables.
Skills
- Proven experience in technical writing for industrial applications with a strong portfolio demonstrating clear, concise documentation.
- Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with engineers.
- Proficiency in editing and proofreading to ensure error-free content that meets style and quality standards.
- Strong research skills for gathering detailed information from various sources quickly and accurately.
- Familiarity with Visio or similar diagramming tools for creating technical illustrations.
- Expertise in Microsoft Word for document creation and formatting.
- Ability to adapt writing style to meet NanoAL’s style guidelines.
Requirements
· Use Microsoft Word to format the user manuals.
· Able to work effectively remotely.
· Sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement
· Provide up-front hours estimate per project
· Able to invoice for hours worked weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly as an independent contractor.
· Previous experience as a technical writer for industrial equipment or similar.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write structured technical documents.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word required.
· Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 5 – 20 per week
