In 2026, we are expanding our contributor network and seeking talented freelance writers and editors to help us deliver groundbreaking, impactful storytelling across a wide range of topics.
Position Overview
BlackDoctor.org is seeking experienced freelance writers and editors to produce high-quality, engaging, and culturally-informed content. Ideal candidates have a background in journalism, health communication, science writing, or SEO-driven digital storytelling.
Writers may contribute to consumer health articles, lifestyle content, physician-to-physician materials, clinical trial education, personal patient narratives, and more.
Key Responsibilities
- Write clear, accurate, culturally relevant content on assigned health and lifestyle topics
- Translate complex medical and scientific information into accessible, engaging language
- Pitch timely and evergreen story ideas aligned with BDO’s editorial goals
- Conduct interviews with medical experts, patients, and subject-matter specialists when needed
- Incorporate SEO best practices into all content
- Meet deadlines and revise content based on editorial feedback
- Collaborate with editors to ensure accuracy and alignment with BDO’s voice and standards
Content Areas May Include
- Health conditions & chronic disease
- Lifestyle & wellness (fitness, nutrition, mental health, relationships, finances, culture)
- Physician-to-physician medical content (professional audience)
- Clinical trials, breakthroughs, and health equity
- Personal patient stories and real-life experiences
- General health news and emerging medical trends
Qualifications
- Proven writing or editing experience (3–5 published clips required)
- Background in health, science, lifestyle, or medical writing preferred
- Experience writing for Black audiences or multicultural platforms is a plus
- Strong research, interviewing, and fact-checking skills
- Ability to write with empathy, accuracy, and cultural nuance
- Working knowledge of SEO
- Reliable communication and ability to meet deadlines
