The Golden State StormThe Golden State Storm is an exciting, emerging WNFC franchise based in the Bay Area, Northern California. The Storm is currently an emerging startup organization that is building its entire foundation—from business operations to brand identity—ahead of its inaugural playing season (scheduled for 2026). The organization is entirely volunteer-run and committed to building a team that embodies the Bay Area spirit of innovation, excellence, and community impact, with a strong focus on empowering women and girls in sports.
The Opportunity: Social Media Manager. THIS IS A PART-TIME, VOLUNTEER POSITION We’re looking for a creative, organized, and highly motivated Social Media Manager to help shape the Golden State Storm’s digital voice and bring our brand to life across platforms.
This is a non-paid, volunteer leadership role essential to building our fan base, elevating women’s sports, and driving the growth of the Storm as we prepare for our inaugural season.
This is an incredible opportunity to help build a professional sports team’s digital presence from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Strategy and Management- Content Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy across all major platforms (Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) to drive brand awareness, fan engagement, and recruiting interest.
- Content Calendar: Create, schedule, and post engaging content daily/weekly, including gameday updates, athlete spotlights, behind-the-scenes coverage, community events, sponsorship integration, and team updates. .
- Community Engagement: Actively monitor comments and direct messages, fostering positive and inclusive interaction with fans, sponsors, and the community.
- Analytics:Track platform insights and performance to understand what’s working, optimize content, and demonstrate growth.
- Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, photography, videography, and graphic design volunteers to ensure timely execution of content needs.
- Brand Consistency: Ensure all visual content adheres to the Golden State Storm brand guidelines as the brand is developed. Maintain visual consistency across all materials (logos, colors, typography, tone).
- Video/Motion Graphics (A Plus): Basic video editing or motion graphic skills for short-form social content (e.g., TikTok, Instagram Reels) are highly desirable.
Qualifications and Requirements- Social Media Expertise: Proven experience managing professional social media accounts (preferably for a sports, entertainment, or startup brand) with a track record of driving engagement.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to craft compelling captions, narratives, and social-first messaging.
- Design Proficiency: Familiarity with Canva or Adobe tools for basic content creation.
- Portfolio Required: Candidates must provide a portfolio or links to active social media accounts/design work demonstrating relevant skills.
- Organized & Self-Directed: Able to manage a content calendar, meet deadlines, and operate in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
- Commitment: Must be able to commit approximately 5-10 hours per week, with flexible scheduling, but requiring timely content delivery (e.g., gameday posting).
- Remote: This is a fully remote, non-paid volunteer position.
