THE OPPORTUNITY
Our Lives Media, Wisconsin’s premier LGBTQ media outlet, is hiring a part-time Editor to accelerate our mission to provide engaging, relevant, and diverse news coverage of the state’s LGBTQ community.
This job will be largely remote, with a strong preference for being Wisconsin-based. The candidate should be well-connected to the state’s various LGBTQ communities, organizations, and programs.
The Editor will help guide editorial decisions and directions for print magazine production, as well as web-based breaking news, ensuring timely delivery of content covering the diverse breadth and depth of Wisconsin's LGBTQ community.
The Editor will:
- Lead an engaging, relevant, and best-in-class content strategy for Our Lives Magazine
- Develop issue-by-issue editorial calendars, creative requests, and contingency plans
- Manage all editorial communications: confirm assignments, set deadlines, manage performance, etc.
- Oversee ongoing syndication of magazine content to website and social media
- Curate and/or create real-time news content for website and social media
- Host recurring editorial planning, production and one-on-one meetings with team
- Lead, refine, and grow the contributor network for Our Lives Media
- Measure and communicate key performance indicators to Publisher and Board of Directors
Note: This is a hands-on position. Approximately 20-30% of editorial time will be spent on writing assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Journalism, writing, or editorial background (2 years relevant experience required)
- Proficient in using social media (Facebook + Instagram) for content marketing
- Proven experience implementing DEI best-practices, as well as commitment to social justice, and stakeholder engagement, and continuous learning.
- Experience leading diverse individuals, teams, and programs within the LGBTQ community
- BONUS: Familiarity with WordPress, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Canva
COMPENSATION
The Editor role will average 15 hours per week / 60 hours per month, with a salary of $1,200 a month, for an initial contracted term of 6 months (with a solid option to renew.)
This is a freelance, part-time, contracted position.

We publish a full-color print magazine 6 times a year, in addition to web and social media content, to help keep the LGBTQ and allied community connected, informed, and empowered.
