Job Description
We are seeking a Freelance Culinary Copy Writer/Copyeditor who understands our brand identity as well as our brand voice and can help us reflect accuracy and consistency in all our varied content, including but not limited to appliance user guides, recipe books, website content, product listings, packaging, and more.
This is a freelance position with flexible hours, offering the potential to evolve into a full-time role based on business needs. This role will be fully remote, although proximity to our Mahwah, NJ office is a plus.
Role & Responsibilities
- Primary role will be to interact and collaborate closely with the Copy and Creative Teams to perform the following necessary functions:
- Write User Guides copy for both new and existing products with the goal of making products easy for consumers to use.
- In certain cases, work with appliances in a real-world setting to better inform User Guide copy and gain understanding of best usage methods to share with the consumer
- Read, review, and copyedit content (user guides, packaging, and cookbooks) at every stage of production for accuracy as well as consistency of brand voice.
- In collaboration with Copy team, maintain a prioritized list of projects with deadlines.
- Occasionally assist in copyediting and writing for other departments, including video scripts or ecommerce listings.
- Work with Creative Team to request illustrations, ensure illustrations are accurate, and to edit and proofread layouts.
- Depending on candidate, duties may include working with culinary team to edit recipes and/or uploading recipe content to digital platforms.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong technical writing experience
- Copyediting and/or proofreading experience
- Love of food, cooking, and all things related to the kitchen
- Expertise with standard editorial concepts, practices, and procedures.
- English, journalism or similar degree preferred
- Culinary Education is useful but not required
- Ability to write both creative and technical content and apply differing styles as appropriate
- Strong eye for detail
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word Office and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign), project management software, and other relevant software
- Great communication skills, both verbal and written
- Superb organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent teamwork abilities
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects from start to on-time conclusion
- Effectively connects to a culture of delivering high quality content around the brand vision
