Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and passionate Freelance High School Football Writer for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will have previous sports writing experience and a deep understanding of high school football. This role involves a mix of covering a handful of games on Friday nights, writing game previews, and recaps. Availability on most Friday nights during the football season is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce insightful game recaps with analysis, player performances, and notable moments to help expand our website’s coverage and to help provide content to our various media partners.
- Write detailed and engaging previews for upcoming games, highlighting key players, matchups, and storylines.
- Occasionally attend and cover high school football games on Friday nights, providing live updates and post-game recaps.
- Conduct interviews with coaches, players, and other relevant figures to enhance coverage.
- Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure timely and accurate content publication.
- Stay updated on high school football news, trends, and standings in the Greater Cincinnati area.
- Adhere to journalistic standards and ethical practices in all reporting.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in sports writing, preferably covering high school or college football.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and deliver high-quality content.
- Excellent knowledge of high school football rules, strategies, and key players in the Greater Cincinnati area.
- Strong interpersonal skills for conducting interviews and interacting with coaches, players, and fans.
- Reliable transportation to attend games and events in the Greater Cincinnati area.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and social media is a plus.
