UI Health is seeking an Graphic Design Manager, to join our UI Health Marketing & Communications team. This role will work under the direction of the Creative Director (CD), and will be responsible for creating high visual communications that are aligned with UI Health's brand and mission. This includes working on projects throughout the creative development cycle. This may include leading the creative development, mentoring less experienced specialists, and collaborating with publications and marketing team members for projects that the designer is assigned to and ensuring that all files are ready for manufacturing or web development. In addition to supporting the Creative Director this role will provide project support for the Senior Director of Marketing and others, as requested. Essential to the job are strong interpersonal, time management, writing, organizational and communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide creative, modern graphic design across print and digital including: advertising, internal/external campaigns, company intranet, internal communications, e-blasts, flat screen displays, promotional material, events, and social media. Resolve complex design challenges by structuring and managing the creative and production processes.

In collaboration with the Creative & Brand Director, champion the articulation, proper implementation, and evolution of UI Health brand standards: maintain a strong interest in brand positioning, coherent messaging, style, and voice to support the marketing group’s mission.

Responsible for liaising between the Creative & Brand Director, marketing associates, and internal/external creative teams to shape the client’s given content into a coherent concept – by reorganizing and editing messages and writing headlines and captions when needed.

Develop creative briefs based on ideas established in brainstorming sessions with direction, schedules, and expected deliverables for the creative team.

Able to independently art-direct and use camera and lighting equipment to execute photo shoots, edit and retouch photos, and properly archive and publish images. Photography may include individual head shots, group photos, concept photos for campaigns, and candid event location photos.

Assist as the second camera operator for video shoots, including mic and lighting placement

Responsible for pitching campaign/design concepts to Creative Director and to clients, and then taking project through the creative production pipeline throughout the life cycle of the assigned project.

Ensure technical accuracy AND delivery timelines of projects with minimal direction from Creative & Brand Director. For larger projects the Graphic Design Manager will collaborate and work under the direct supervision of the Creative & Brand Director.

Provide design direction to other designers including; freelance designers, staff designers, and UIC Publications.

Simultaneously handle multiple projects, maintaining systematic production, file-handling, and asset archiving.

When needed, resourcefully execute rapid, on-target design to support rush executive leadership requests. Provide executive leadership guidance and recommendations on solutions to their project needs.

Assist internal clientele in developing marketing and business communications for delivery either as presentations or printed documents.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
1. Any one or any combination that equals thirty-six (36) months from the categories below1:
A. credit for progressively more advanced college or art-school course work that would lead to a major in graphic/visual arts communication and/or design
- 60 semester hours equals 12 months
- 90 semester hours equals 24 months
- 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 36 months
B. work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of progressively more advanced, generally accepted principles, theories, practices, and methods used in graphic designs and their applications to visual communications problems that are/is comparable to the training provided in the programs such as graphic/visual arts communication and/or design
2. Twenty-Four (24) months of experience comparable to the Graphic Designer level that included assisting in the supervision of work operations
1A Master's Degree in visual design, with emphasis in visual arts communication or a closely related field, meets the requirements of this Minimum Acceptable Qualification.
Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience consulting with internal and external clients to arrive at project objectives, requirements, constraints, and schedule and budget expectations – in order to focus the design process on practice yet high-impact design solutions.

Team player – enjoys being part of a close-knit team

6+ years of experience as a designer in a professional environment

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from an accredited university

Thorough understanding of commercial printing, presentation graphics, and promo design production techniques to execute alternative, cost-saving production methods when necessary

Strong interpersonal and organization skills, as the designer will often interface with clients and be faced with settling issues regarding job priority, scope, budget, and scheduling.

Ability to take group and portrait photos using professional full frame cameras and lenses and assist in larger photo shoots that require 3-point lighting (continuous & flash)

3+ years as a designer with a large-scale medical delivery health system or higher education system or ad agency

Ability to create line art, vector-based illustrations such as 2D icons and 3D isometric graphics via Illustrator.

Fluent with Mac OS, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, Acrobat, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint

Must be able to lift 40lbs, and be able to be standing for 3+ hours at a time for photo and video shoots

Investigating & learning new software tools for possible Department use.
