High School Sports Freelance Writers

LoneStarLive.com is seeking freelance reporters to cover high school sports across Texas. The ideal candidates will be able to write stories and produce lists by evaluating stats, reviewing game footage, speaking with coaches and/or attending occasional games. This is not a full-time position. Our freelance reporters can expect opportunities to produce two to three stories a week and will be paid by the story. The reporter may also be asked to shoot video with a smartphone and use social media to engage an audience.


Articles topics may include:


  • Rankings of top players in a region or across the state
  • Compilations of top performers from a week of action
  • Roundups of scores
  • Previews of games
  • Game coverage that may include video highlights and/or video interviews


The right fit will have:


  • Experience covering sports for a local news outlet
  • The ability to watch game film and clips like a coach
  • Access to a personal laptop to complete work
  • A desire to write about high school sports across Texas
  • Strong communication skills to work with sources and LoneStarLive.com team members
