The Role

The Freelance Senior Art Director must be extremely fluent in Photoshop and Illustrator. They must have a good understanding of typography, composition, and the creative process. They will need to be able to communicate their ideas through various platforms: Slack, Google Slides, and Google Meet. Teamwork and collaboration are essential, along with effective communication. They will also need to be comfortable with taking a mentoring role for other designers. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, task-oriented, solution-driven and excited to work in Entertainment.

This role will report directly to the Creative Director (CD).

This role is a freelance position.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Guide the creative team to closely analyze briefs, developing unique, attention-grabbing, culturally relevant, and groundbreaking ideas and campaigns that elevate the client’s brand
  • Design, explore, and execute creative concepts across multiple clients and genre
  • Efficiently and effectively engage projects from inception to completion - from kick-off to post-mortem - troubleshooting along the way
  • Lead projects in the absence of CDs, ensuring seamless progress, high-level creative, and successful outcomes
  • Design creative that resonates with our clients and their users through storytelling
  • Produce and design presentations and pitch decks in a clean and orderly way while also showing our capabilities
  • Manage quality assurance by proofreading and reviewing client notes while staying true to a client’s brief; ensure all notes and feedback have been responded to directly
  • Assist the PMs in keeping the project on track creatively by promptly providing creative reference materials and commenting on design/layout/illustrations during all design phases
  • Communicate with leadership and project managers (PMs) to support quality control and guide a regularly scheduled project review process to enhance project management; advise PMs on timeline and resourcing needs for creative projects
  • Ensure internal and external visual communication and brand standards are met
  • Provide direction, feedback (via crits and other direct methods), and quality control over all assets within a campaign or project
  • Document steps required in the creative development process and have the ability to perform those tasks in a timely and productive manner
  • Maintain style guides, art assets, and graphics standards (and related documentation)
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams on a range of deliverables
  • Meet with the creative director to explain campaign strategies and solutions
  • Mentor other designers and art directors
  • Other duties as assigned

Who You Are

  • Expert skills in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • At least 7+ years of proven experience in a design company, advertising agency or in-house creative environment
  • Possess a sophisticated sense of digital design, composition, color, typography and strong, strategic conceptual skills
  • Solid compositing skills, great concepting smarts, and an ability to convey complex messaging through images, graphics, and type
  • Ability to articulate creative ideas and “sell” your work to your team
  • Experience with the Google Suite (Meet, Slides, Sheets, etc.)
  • Ability to be mentored and growth mindset
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented, has good follow-through, can multitask, and works well under tight deadlines
  • Ability to approach a problem from multiple viewpoints
  • Ability to work through problems with a team that values collaboration and feedback
  • Ability to think beyond the task at hand and identify blockers and improvements

Compensation Expectations

The starting base compensation range for this position is $131,097 - $168,057 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s certifications, location, prior experience, and qualifications.
