Our client is the in-house creative studio of a leader in retail seeking a 3D Art Director, known as the 3D Technical & Aesthetic Director, for 40 hours/week, ongoing, and onsite 3 days/week in the San Bruno, CA office.
The 3D Photo Art Director will choose environments, textures, surfaces and product types that will best render the most photorealistic tableaus, allowing 3D-based images to reside alongside traditional photography and create a seamless experience for the shopper. Communicating directly with 3D studio vendors, the ideal candidate will have experience working in photo studio-type settings and understand technical aspects around lighting, environments, styling, etc.
While 3D experience is a plus, candidates without 3D experience can still be considered for this role as long as they have Photo Art Direction and set creation experience.
The 3D Art Director Will
- Provide 3D-specific aesthetic & technical direction that brings to life the editorial campaigns and merchandising of products and services
- Create mockups of products and/or scenes in Photoshop
- Provide creative and technical direction on scenes, products, objects and environments, to be rendered in 3D
- Mentor members of the 3D creative team to further their knowledge of 3D capabilities
- Partner with various clients from across the company's retail groups to fulfill their commerce goals
- Collaborate with 3D vendors to ensure your vision is being translated accurately to 3D
- Leverage curations provided by merchants and source furniture and decor ideas from existing products
- Oversee storytelling and functioning in a 3D technical sense and as the set designer, lighting designer, photographer and interior designer
- Gather requirements and product priorities from merchandising and marketing
- Collaborate with merchandising and marketing teams to ensure alignment on the creative vision as it relates to product representation
- Partner with 3D operations on 3D model requests
The 3D Art Director Must Have
- 5+ years as an Art Director within retail home furnishings, consumer electronics, beauty or fashion and the design trade
- Experience working with photo studios, product rendering, set creation, scenes or environments
- Knowledge of 3D technical aspects and ability to communicate feedback to 3D studios and modelers
- Proficiency in Photoshop (to create mockups)
- Knowledge of the facets of commercial image creation, spatial computing and GenAi spaces
- Experience using a project management tool
Bonus
- Experience in next-gen commerce (NGC)
- Proficiency in 3D software tools and formats
- Skills in Figma
