Base pay range

$25.00/hr - $30.00/hr
Our client in the higher education space, is looking for a freelance Social Media Specialist to lead and expand our presence on social. This role will be 2 months, up to 40 hours a week, and an option to come onsite as needed at their office located in Washington, DC.

The Social Media Specialist will report to the Editor-in-Chief and work closely with reporters and editors to bring stories to readers where they are, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

Social Media Specialist Responsibilities

  • Lead social presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other news-sharing and emerging platforms
  • Execute social media strategy to drive event registrations and generate new business leads
  • Build community and convert new audiences into engaged followers
  • Source or create images to accompany content
  • Monitor data and analytics on social and audience performance, reporting results to key editorial and business team members
  • Collaborate with journalists, developers and marketing specialists to improve workflows and streamline efforts on audience development and content distribution
  • Gather, analyze and apply reader feedback to improve existing projects
  • Monitor and moderate user-generated content and reader social media comments

Social Media Specialist Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a social media management role, preferably for a brand or major media outlet
  • Proven experience growing audiences on social accounts
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Google Analytics, Chartbeat, Facebook Insights, and/or Crowdtangle
  • Experience with Sprout Social and other social listening tools is a plus
  • Experience or training in journalism or time spent in a newsroom or similar editorial environment is a plus
