The artist is primarily responsible for creating effective visual products that clearly communicate the ongoing accomplishments of the group. Working with highly technical material and staff, the artist will translate various inputs into designs for both technical audiences and lay people. The artist will also manage a range of information management and administrative projects while keeping them organized and accessible to themselves and the Group.
Primary Duties include:
Creative Design and Business Graphics
• Design, layout and produce PowerPoint presentations, interactive digital posters, technical illustrations, logos, and promotional items
• Create new designs from descriptions , back-of-the- envelope drawings and notes, or existing materials
• Integrate dissimilar inputs with varying styles into a unified presentation; ensure design consistency
• Clean up/reformat/organize content in existing presentations and reports to meet the Laboratory's level of professionalism
• Apply knowledge of color theory, perspective, composition, and information design to every deliverable Organization, Asset Management, Quality Control
• Maintain electronic libraries of briefings, clip art, and other marketing resources
• Maintain links to resources on Group or Division webpages, wikis, and file repositories
• Develop content management guidelines and protocols
• Ensure work adheres to Laboratory style guides, branding standards, as well as marking and release requirements
• Proof-read deliverables for spelling, grammar and punctuation
• Advise staff on best practices for producing effective graphics and publications
Collaboration and Project Management
• Work with management and staff to determine project needs, timelines, expectations and priorities
• Proactively reach out to technical staff to discuss content, propose solutions, request inputs, review timelines
• Set up SharePoint folders in support of specific meetings; distribute link to speakers, track uploads and graphics work needed
• Collaborate with/support other artists in the Division
• Work independently; prioritize, track, and bring tasks to closure

• Improve methods, processes, and resources where needed
Position Requirements:
• BA/BFA in Communication Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, or related field or equivalent experience
• 5 years of visual design experience;
• Strong concept, design and layout skills
• Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work successfully one-on-one with technical staff as well as thrive in a team environment
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign) applications in Mac or Windows environments
